President Obama is throwing the spotlight on America’s ‘best kept secret’ – community colleges “equip students with the skills and the education necessary to compete and win in this 21st-century economy." Micro-scholarships ELN is launching its first micro-scholarships in California in fall 2011, starting with Glendale Community College. California has the largest higher education system in the U.S., serving nearly 3 million students annually, and 30% of Californians ages 18-24 currently enrolled in a community college. Almost 60% of California State University graduates and 30% of University of California graduates transferred from a community college. Too often, community college students miss out on the advice and relationships that are so important to successful personal and professional development. ELN’s goal is to build a global community of successful community college alumni who are inspired to give back and help current community college students achieve their goals. ELN will be a resource for all community college students, and will offer its mentorship and networking programs to those students with the potential to make a positive difference in their communities. |
